This word took me a long time to learn because gingerly to me sounds like “spryly” or “merrily.” Probably because of the similarity to jingly or giggly. Once I got the correct meaning into my skull, I started using it. A great word for writing. 🙂

I can completely relate! When i first came across this word, I thought that it meant something happy, as you mentioned above, but when I found out the meaning I was really surprised!
And I completely agree, it is indeed a really nice word for writing.
Thanks for reading!

Great word choice. My mother used the word ‘gingerly’ all of the time when i was a child. Since I was young, I can’t say whether or not she always used it correctly, but seeing it as you word of the week brought back many memories of my childhood.

The word brings, not so gingerly, the rhizome ‘ginger’ to mind. I like to coin ‘cucumberly’, to mean ‘as cool as cucumber’

Haha! Good one, Raj.
And I really like cucumberly, guess I’d like to coin lemonly… as in sour 😉
